FIDER, the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research, is the national accrediting board for interior design programs in colleges and universities in North America. There are more than 130 member schools that have been accredited by FIDER since its inception. For an aspiring interior designer, FIDER accredited listings are a perfect reference for help in your decision about schools to which you are interested in applying. FIDER sets the standards that the design schools held accountable to, and insures instruction at the accredited schools maintain their classes according to these standards.

Interior design, as interior designers will tell you, is not the same as interior decorating. Although there are many creative and decorative elements to the interior designer’s job, most of their work is focused on the actual buildings themselves, from the height of the walls, the materials for floors, position of stairs, location of windows, whatever a room needs to become an inside space, an interior designer may have a hand in it.
